About the Area

Brecon Beacons
The Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales contains a number of distinct mountainous areas, from the wilderness area of the Carmarthen Black Mountain (Mynydd Ddu) in the west, through the highest peaks of the Beacons themselves south of the town of Brecon, to the steep-sided grassy moorland of the Black Mountains bordering the English border in the east.

Our expeditions will take place in the western part of the Brecons, beautiful but little-visited. The area you will be passing through has lakes and moraines left behind by the last ice age, an enormous network of caves, one of the few geoparks in Europe and many other features that give plenty of scope for those looking for a topic for their qualifying expedition – and plenty to see for those on a practice expedition.
